Spatiotemporal Evolution and Driving Factors of Settlement Distribution in Yanchi County(2000-2020)

Abstract
This study aims to reveal the spatial differentiation and spatiotemporal evolution of settlements in Yanchi County,as well as the driving factors behind these changes.Utilizing the landscape pattern index method,the changes in settlement landscape patterns in the northern region characterized by gentle slope hilly landform and the southern region dominated by loess hilly landform were analyzed from 2000 to 2020.Additionally,the dynamic changes in settlement land were assessed using land use dynamics.The influence of 9 factors,including terrain,climate,economy and location,on the distribution and spatiotemporal evolution of settlements in Yanchi County was explored using the geography detector method.The results show that:The distribution of settlements in Yanchi County is generally scattered,exhibiting a trend of rapid expansion from north to south and slower expansion in the central region,significantly influenced by climate,topography and economic factors.The hydrophilic nature of this area is particularly noteworthy due to its status as an agro-pastoral transition zone.Economic factors have gradually emerged as the dominant influence on the spatial clustering of settlements across the county.In the southern loess hilly region,settlement distributions are primarily affected by climatic and topographic factors,showing a trend of scattered expansion.In contrast,the settlement distribution in the northern plateau area is predominantly influenced by climatic and economic factors,demonstrating a tendency towards aggregation.Therefore,the development and planning of settlements in Yanchi County should acknowledge the north-south disparities and guide population concentration towards areas with higher carrying capacity,while promoting economic development to foster harmonious human-environment interactions.关键词
