Numerical Calculation and Analysis of Aerodynamic/Thermal Characteristics of Starship

Abstract
This paper investigates the aerodynamic characteristics of SpaceX's Super Heavy-Starship system through numerical simulations at varying flight altitudes and angles of attack,analyzing surface pressure distribution,skin friction coefficient,and heat flux patterns.The study employs the finite volume method to solve the Navier-Stokes equations with an implicit time-advancement scheme.Key findings reveal that as the angle of attack increases,high-pressure and high-skin-friction regions progressively shift toward the Starship's aft section,while heat flux intensifies markedly at the nose and control surface edges.Shock wave dynamics critically influence surface pressure and thermal load distribution.At an extreme 80° angle of attack,large-scale separated vortex structures on the leeward side significantly complicate aerodynamic behavior.The research provides theoretical support for optimizing the Chinese launch vehicle's thermal protection system,refining reentry trajectory control,and enhancing flight stability.关键词
