Abstract

Ecological compensation is an important means of achieving coordinated regional socio-economic development and maintaining ecosystem service functions.This study focuses on the Qinling-Daba Mountains,a crucial ecological security barrier in China,characterized by its unique regional status and functional positioning.However,the ecological benefit-sharing mechanisms within the five provinces and one city of the Qinling-Daba Mountains are unclear,and issues such as unbalanced and insufficient regional development are prominent.Therefore,the implementation of ecological compensation in the Qinling-Daba Mountains has become an urgent problem.Based on the land use data of Qinling-Daba Mountains from 2000 to 2023,the equivalent factor method was used to calculate the ecosystem services value(ESV),based on which the ecological compensation priority sequence(ECPS)model was constructed and the ecological compensation amount was further measured,and then the kernel density estimation method was used to explore the dynamic evolution of the compensation amount,and then the targeted compensation strategy was finally proposed.The results showed that:(1)The ESV in the Qinling-Daba Mountains exhibited a spatial distribution pattern of"high in the center,low on the periphery".The overall ESV increased from 540.80 billion yuan to 871.00 billion yuan,with a growth rate of 61.06%.This indicated that the ecosystem service functions in the region had generally improved during this period.(2)The total ecological compensation amount for the Qinling-Daba Mountains in 2023 was 39.03 billion yuan.Ranking the ECPS of the 31 cities(districts)in the study area,the top three regions in ecological compensation priority were Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture,Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture,and Shennongjia Forestry District.Therefore,these areas need to be prioritized for compensation.(3)From the three-dimensional kernel density map,it can be observed that the compensation amounts in the study area fluctuated,but the differences were gradually decreasing,and the region was showing a multi-polar collaborative trend.It means that different cities within the Qinling-Daba Mountains have previously achieved significant results in ecological protection and compensation,and have formed a favorable situation of multi-regional synergy to promote balanced development of the environment and the economy.Based on these findings,strategies to improve ecological compensation practices in the region are proposed,such as strengthening ecological protection and restoration,optimizing land use structure,and establishing cross-regional ecological compensation mechanisms.In conclusion,this study effectively addresses the challenges of unclear key protected areas and unreasonable resource distribution in the Qinling-Daba Mountains,providing valuable scientific evidence for the study of ecological compensation mechanisms in similar important ecological functional zones.It also has significant practical value in promoting regional equitable development.
