Effect of OMMT on Crystallization and Impact Properties of PP Composites

Abstract
Using polypropylene(PP)as the matrix material,PP/organically modified montmorillonite(OMMT)composites with different OMMT content were prepared by melt-blending process.The effect of OMMT content on the crystallization and impact properties of PP composites was investigated.The results show that the impact strength of PP composites can be effectively improved by adding OMMT,especially the impact strength of PP composites added with OMMT with mass fraction of 2.5%is 40%higher than that of pure PP.The crystallization temperature and melting temperature of PP can be promoted to move to high temperature,while the crystallinity and semi-crystallization time of PP composites can be reduced.It shows that the improvement of crystallization properties of PP composites is helpful to improve the impact strength of PP composites.At the same time,OMMT also makes the diffraction peak of PP shift to a small angle,indicating that OMMT intercalation into PP lattice causes lattice distortion.OMMT can improve the storage modulus and loss modulus of PP composites,while causing the complex viscosity of PP composites to decrease.关键词
