Political and Economic Criticism of the Spatial Narrative in Digital Capitalism
摘要
Abstract
With the rapid development of digital technologies,the digital economy has experienced exponential growth,reaching an unprecedented scope and depth of global influence.Meanwhile,digital capital,as a new form of capital in capitalist societies,has also emerged and is continuously expanding its territory.This new form of capital has made the inherent connection between capital logic and spatial expansion more evident,resulting in a one-to-one mapping between digital capital and spatial activities.This enables us to reverse-engineer changes in capital logic by analyzing the narrative of spatial activities.Due to the advanced and monopolistic nature of digital technology in developed capitalist countries,the powerful spatial restructuring effects of digital capitalism,while strengthening capital's control over the production of space,have led to global spatial division and fragmentation,triggering new forms of spatial exploitation and oppression.Particularly,the convergence of information technologies such as big data,artificial intelligence,and new media communications with digital capital has made the spatial effects of digital capitalism(exploitation and oppression)increasingly covert.This new form of capitalism,dressed in the"digital"guise,claims to transcend capital logic and save human logic through technological logic.However,the spatial narrative of digital capitalism,based on spatial reconstruction,is full of deceptive illusions that obscure the reality.Therefore,studying the essence of the spatial effects of digital capitalism has become an important task in analyzing the new changes in contemporary capitalism. This paper uses a combination of literature analysis and case study methods,based on the theory of Marxist political economy.It begins by focusing on the new changes in the production,living,and interaction spaces of digital capitalism,and uses the spatial activities of digital capital as a narrative thread to conduct a critique of digital capitalism.Furthermore,the paper explores strategies to break the spatial narrative of digital capitalism. The research shows that,from the standpoint of Marxist political economy,digital capitalism has not changed the capitalist nature of itself.On the contrary,its pursuit of capital accumulation has intensified the phenomenon of alienation in spatial production.In the framework of Marxist political economy,the logical structure of digital capitalism's spatial narrative is as follows:it starts with the reconstruction of the capitalist spatial production process through digital labor;it unfolds the dual narrative of capital's spatial expansion and the re-creation of space through capital;and it concludes with the expansion and myth of digital capitalism's spatial narrative.The world market becomes the arena for the reproduction of digital capitalism's production relations,digital platforms provide the spatial carriers for data generation and aggregation,and living spaces are invaded by the exploitative forms of digital capitalism,forming the three-dimensional representation of digital capitalism's spatial narrative.In the face of a new round of technological revolutions and industrial transformations,from the perspective of Marxist political economy,strategies to break the spatial narrative of digital capitalism can be summarized in three dimensions:first,vigorously developing social productive forces to lay a material foundation for transcending the spatial narrative of digital capitalism;second,adhering to a people-centered value orientation to meet the needs for a better life within spatial realms;and third,promoting the transformation of production relations to construct a social space that is conducive to the free and comprehensive development of individuals. The contribution of this paper is reflected in two aspects:first,it comprehensively examines the internal mechanisms of digital capitalism's spatial narrative from the perspective of Marxist political economy;second,it analyzes the spatial narrative of digital capitalism from the dimensions of its logical structure and three-dimensional representation,and based on this,proposes strategies for overcoming and transcending the spatial narrative of digital capitalism from the standpoint of Marxist political economy.This not only continues the critical tradition of Marxist capital logic but also provides valuable insights for the healthy operation of the digital economy and the high-quality development of spatial production in China's modernization process.关键词
