摘要

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the characteristics of brain spontaneous activity and visual network connectivity patterns in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy(TAO)patients with visual dysfunction using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(rs-fMRI).Methods:In this case-control study,32 TAO patients with visual dysfunction and 22 healthy volunteers were recruited from Shenzhen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine(September 2019-December 2024).Rs-fMRI data were acquired and preprocessed to generate amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation(ALFF)and fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation(fALFF)maps for quantifying regional spontaneous brain activity.Regions exhibiting abnormal ALFF/fALFF values served as seeds for visual network functional connectivity(FC)analysis.Correlations between FC strength and clinical features were subsequently evaluated.Results:Compared to controls,the TAO group demonstrated:Significantly increased ALFF in the right parahippocampal gyrus and decreased ALFF in the left pericalcarine cortex(P<0.05);Reduced fALFF in the left pericalcarine cortex and left postcentral gyrus(both P<0.05);Weakened FC between the left pericalcarine cortex and right lingual gyrus,right middle frontal gyrus,and bilateral postcentral gyri,but enhanced FC with the left supplementary motor area and left fusiform gyrus(all P<0.05);Positive correlations of ALFF/fALFF values in aberrant regions with exophthalmos degree and extraocular muscle thickness(all P<0.05).Conclusion:TAO patients demonstrate abnormal spontaneous brain activity and visual network connectivity reorganization,providing neuroimaging evidence for the central neuropathological mechanisms of TAO.
