The Role of Irisin in the"Calcification Paradox"
摘要
Abstract
With the aging of the population,osteoporosis(OP)and vascular calcification(VC)often coexist as comorbidi-ties,yet they exhibit opposing calcification characteristics pathologically,a phenomenon known as the"calcification paradox".Modern studies have demonstrated that irisin levels are negatively correlated with the severity of both osteoporosis and vascular calcification.Furthermore,irisin influences,to a certain extent,the shared risk factors of osteoporosis and vascular calcification through various mechanisms and exerts regulatory effects on both conditions.As a pleiotropic regulatory factor,irisin offers a new perspective for the treatment of the comorbidity of osteoporosis and vascular calcification,providing new insights into the develop-ment of prevention and treatment strategies for related diseases.This article reviews the relationship between irisin and the shared risk factors as well as the underlying mechanisms of osteoporosis and vascular calcification,focusing on the central role of irisin in regulating this complex pathological process.关键词
