Analysis of the Deviation Situation and Causes of SPF Testing In Vivo among Different Testing Institutions

Abstract
Objective:This study aims to investigate the deviations between the results obtained by different testing institutions using the in vivo SPF test method to measure the sun protection factor(SPF)of the same sunscreen standard product and the reference mean SPF value of the sunscreen standard product,as well as the deviation between the SPF values obtained by these institutions.Methods:The P8 sunscreen standard product in ISO 24444:2019 was set as a blind sample and sent to seven testing institutions for SPF human testing according to the methods in the"Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics(2015 Edition)".Results:The average SPF value of the seven testing institutions was 51,with a variance of 6.7.The deviation of the SPF values from the average SPF value of 51 ranged from-11.76%to 29.41%.The deviation from the SPF reference value of 63 of the P8 sunscreen standard product ranged from-28.57%to 4.76%.Conclusion:The possible reasons for the deviation of SPF test results in vivo are mainly related to sample and method/process factors.It is recommended that relevant testing institutions pay attention to these causes,continuously improve their testing capabilities,and thereby enhance the accuracy of in vivo SPF testing results.关键词
