Expert Consensus on Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndrome Diagnosis and Efficacy Evaluation of Acute Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Abstract
Acute Bacterial Conjunctivitis(ABC)is a highly contagious ophthalmic emergency caused by bacterial infection.Western Medicine primarily employs antibiotic eye drops for treatment,but long-term use can lead to various complications.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)utilizes Chinese medicines with functions such as dispersing wind-heat,pacifying liver-fire,reducing swelling and relieving pain,and resolving both exterior and interior syndromes,administered orally or as eye drops.These approaches address the root cause and alleviate symptoms like redness,swelling,heat,and pain.However,standardized TCM syndrome diagnosis and efficacy evaluation criteria for ABC are currently lacking.Led by Xiyuan Hospital,China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Eye Hospital,China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences,an expert group was established under the project approved by China Association of Chinese Medicine.Based on evidence-based research,the"Expert Consensus on TCM Syndrome Diagnosis and Efficacy Evaluation of Acute Bacterial Conjunctivitis"was developed to guide clinical practice and scientific research on ABC prevention and treatment with TCM,thereby improving overall therapeutic outcomes.关键词
