YANG Jun's Experience in Treating Pediatric Amblyopia with Acupuncture and Medication Based on"Unblocking Governor Vessel and Opening Orifices"

Abstract
Amblyopia is a visual development disorder characterized by reduced best-corrected visual acuity and visual dysfunction in one or both eyes.Current clinical understanding suggests that its pathogenesis is related to abnormal brain function.Conventional Western treatments often include occlusion therapy,visual training,and pharmacological intervention.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)approaches primarily involve herbal medicine and acupuncture,with the key to treatment lying in understanding the etiology and pathogenesis.YANG Jun believes that the main etiology and pathogenesis of pediatric amblyopia involve innate deficiency,insufficient kidney essence,inadequate postnatal nourishment,deficiency in Qi and blood production,lack of nourishment to the eyes,and delayed brain development,leading to visual impairment.The treatment adopts an integrated approach combining acupuncture and medication,based on the principle of"unblocking the governor vessel and opening the orifices."It primarily uses acupoints from the governor vessel and the three Yang meridians of the hand and foot,emphasizing head points,combined with oral administration of spleen and kidney tonifying formulas,collectively achieving the effects of replenishing the kidney and filling the marrow,nourishing the brain and opening the orifices,and strengthening spleen and harmonizing stomach.This article discusses YANG Jun's experience in treating pediatric amblyopia with combined acupuncture and medication.关键词
