Comprehensive evaluation of Carex resources and their landscape application potentiality in the Jinqiang River Basin,Qilian Mountains

Abstract
[Objective]Carex species are characterized by well-developed rhizomes and strong adaptability,mak-ing them ideal materials for the development of rural land cover and ornamental use.The Jinqiang River Basin of Qil-ian Mountains is rich in Carex plant resources,and it is particularly important to explore the potential of wild Carex as garden ground cover plants.[Method]Based on resource investigations,12 indicators,such as plant height and cover-age screened based on hierarchical analysis method,were used to construct a comprehensive evaluation system ecom-passing four aspects of horticultural characteristics and garden ornamental properties.This system was applied to evaluate wild Carex species in the Jinqiang River basin.[Result]A total of 48 species of Carex were recorded in the region,including 10 species endemic to China.Analytic hierarchy process(AHP)evaluation identified four wild species-Carex duriuscula subsp.rigescens,Carex duriuscula subsp.stenophylloides,Carex enervis,and Carex aridula-as Grade Ⅰ garden ground cover plants with the highest development potential.Twenty-two species,includ-ing Carex crebra and Carex ivanoviae,were classifiedas Grade Ⅱ;14 species,such as Carex przewalskii and Carex lanceolata,as Grade Ⅲ;and 8 species,including Carex capillifolia and Carex haematostoma,as Grade Ⅳ garden groundcover plants.[Conclusion]The Jinqiang River Basin of the Qilian Mountains is rich in wild Carex resources,with 40 species suitable for development and utilization.Among them,Grade Ⅰ garden groundcover plants have the highest potential for horticultural development and utilization,Grade Ⅱ are suitable for moderate utilization,and Grade Ⅲ species have general value for application as ground cover plants.关键词
