Party Organization Embedding,Free Time Allocation and Economic Performance

Abstract
The third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee stressed that institutional reform is of paramount importance for the next phase of economic construction.Within the field of micro-political economy,although numerous studies have demonstrated the positive effects of Party organi-zation embedding on enterprise performance,little attention has been paid to the institutional heterogeneity underlying these effects.Drawing on several months of field tracking in both state-owned and private enterprises,this paper records and compares the mechanisms and transmission characteristics linking Party embedding to economic performance across different ownership types.Empirical findings show,first,that Party organizations embedding reshapes employees'allocation and the quality of free time,thereby improving future performance.Second,institutional heterogeneity significantly moderates the economic impact of Party embedding:in state-owned firms,it raises workers'conscientiousness and agreeableness—key non-cognitive skills—thereby boosting performance;whereas in private firms,the same non-cognitive pathways are negatively associated with performance,likely due to mismatched competitive and ideological orientations.Based on these results,the study recommends that private firms learn from state-owned enterpri-ses'experience of integrating ideological and economic construction,and optimize Party-building strategies accordingly.The findings offer reference for deepening institutional reform and strengthening the organic integration of political and economic development across different ownership structures.关键词
