Abstract
Objective:Enterococcus is an important pathogen in hospital-acquired infections,and its ability to form biofilms is closely associated with chronic infections and therapeutic failure.This study aims to investigate the relationship between biofilm-forming capacity and antibiotic resistance in Enterococcus,providing a theoretical basis for infection control in clinical practice.
Methods:The biofilm-forming ability of 176 Enterococcus isolates was quantitatively assessed using the crystal violet staining method.Antimicrobial susceptibility to various antibiotics was determined by the broth microdilution method.The correlations between biofilm formation and single-drug as well as multi-drug resistance were analyzed.
Results:Among the 176 Enterococcus isolates,160(90.91%)exhibited biofilm-forming ability.The biofilm-forming rate of Enterococcus faecalis was significantly higher than that of Enterococcus faecium(P<0.05).Except for tetracycline resistance,where the proportion of biofilm-forming strains was significantly higher in the resistant group than in the non-resistant group(P<0.05),no statistically significant correlations were observed between biofilm formation and resistance to other antibiotics(all P>0.05).
Conclusion:The relationship between biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance in Enterococcus is complex.When developing treatment and prevention strategies for Enterococcus infections,clinicians should consider the potential clinical impact of biofilm formation on drug resistance.关键词
