Abstract

The rapid drying characteristics of peanut pods play a crucial role in alleviating the late frost damage and minimizing the risk of aflatoxin contamination during the drying process,so that the dehydration and rehydration properties of 16 peanut varieties(lines),comprising 13 Spanish type varieties(lines)(Fuhua22,Fuhua25,Fuhua27,Fuhua29,Fuhua35,Fuhua38,Fuhua50,Fuhua51,Fuhua54,Fu-hua56,Liaohua608,Liaohua917,22NB12)and 3 Valencia type varieties(lines)(Fuhua-silihong,22NB2,22NB3)were assessed to evaluate these characteristics.The results showed that the fresh pod water content of 16 peanut varieties(lines)ranged from 29.48%to 40.50%.Under 0-6 days of drying,Fuhua50,Liaohua608,22NB12 and Fuhua54 dehydrated quickly,while the other 11 varieties dehydrated slowly.The moisture regai-ning speed of Fuhua-silihong,22NB3 and Fuhua56 was fast,while the moisture regaining speed of Fuhua35,Liaohua608 and 22 NB2 was slow,and the moisture regaining speed of other 10 varieties was medium.The changes in pod moisture content over drying time for all 16 varieties(lines)were effectively mod-eled using the Harris model,rational function,Bleasdale model,and reciprocal model,among which the Harris model proved to be the most suitable one,with correlation coefficients(r)exceeding 0.974.Broad-sense heritability analysis based on single-plant data indicated that pod moisture content during the ini-tial drying stage(0 to 1 day of sun-drying)was relatively high,with values all above 67.40%.This suggests that the genetic improvement for this trait is expected to achieve remarkable results.
