Does Artificial Intelligence Application Affect the Employment Stability of Manufacturing Industry?

Abstract
The manufacturing industry is a significant carrier of employment,and the widespread application of artificial intelligence(AI)in manufacturing industry is bound to affect the employment stability of manufacturing employees.This study employs data from the China Labor-force Dynamics Survey(CLDS)and the International Federation of Robotics(IFR)to investigate the impacts of AI adoption on the employment stability of manufacturing industry,focusing on three dimensions:labor contract signing,types of labor contracts,and employees' turnover intentions.Statistical analyses indicate that the application of AI significantly facilitates the signing of labor contracts,thereby enhancing the labor contract signing rate and leading to more standardized employment practices within enterprises.Under the influence of AI,employees exhibit a greater propensity to enter into short-term labor contracts of less than five years,establishing transient employment relationships.Furthermore,employees' intentions to resign within the next two years have markedly increased.Employees' leisure time during work partially mediates the relationship between AI adoption and employment stability.Overall,the application of AI in manufacturing enterprises has led to more legally compliant and standardized employment relationships between firms and employees.However,these relationships have also become more short-term,accompanied by a decrease in employment stability and potential risks of large-scale employee turnover.关键词
