Abstract

Wear and oxide buildup,known as nodulation,on the surface of key components of the steel plate production line,such as furnace rolls and roll rings in hot strip rolling mills frequently necessitate their replacement,which increases production costs and reduces efficiency.To address this issue,laser cladding technology is investigated for the repair and remanufacturing of these critical parts.After considering the base material of the components and their specific service conditions,the cladding powder is optimized,and a nickel-based alloy powder blended with 20%spherical WC metal-ceramic composite powder is developed.A 10 kW CO2 five-axis four-linkage laser processing system is used,along with optimized process parameters,to perform the laser cladding.The microstructure,microhardness,high-temperature tribological properties,and thermal shock resistance of the resulting cladding layer are systematically evaluated.The results show that the cladding layer exhibits a distinct,dense dendritic microstructure.Its microhardness is significantly higher than that of the substrate,and its high-temperature wear resistance and thermal shock resistance are also markedly improved.Laser cladding technology is shown to be effective not only for the repair and remanufacturing of furnace rolls and roll rings,but also for the manufacturing of new components,thereby greatly enhancing their surface performance.
