Abstract

In order to enhance the thermal performance and comprehensive solar energy utilization efficiency of salt gradient solar pond(SGSP),and address the inherent limitations of traditional solar ponds,such as low heat storage density,substantial heat loss,and the temperature-induced efficiency degradation of photovoltaic(PV)modules,a small-scale SGSP was constructed and coupled with photovoltaic/thermal(PV/T)integrated collectors.Heat storage and heat release experiments were conducted in Zhengzhou city during the heating period in December,2023 to evaluate the thermal performance of the coupled system.The results demonstrate that,the independent SGSP system exhibits superior stability compared to the SGSP-PV/T coupled system,the maximum daily salinity variation of the former is approximately 1%o,occurring at around 8:30,whereas that of the latter reaches 2.5%o,indicating relatively poor stability.For the independent SGSP system,the heat extraction temperature increases from 9:00 to 11:00,maintains its peak value from 11:00 to 14:00,and then generally decreases.In contrast,the maximum heat extraction temperature of the SGSP in the coupled system appears at 13:00,with the highest recorded temperature reaching 35 ℃ during the experimental period.Coupling the SGSP with PV/T significantly improves the thermal efficiency of the SGSP,achieving an average maximum thermal efficiency of 30%,approximately 17%higher than that of the independent SGSP system.In terms of electrical efficiency,the coupled system outperforms the independent system by roughly 3%,with the maximum electrical efficiency being approximately 1%higher.Regarding solar energy utilization,the maximum total efficiency of the coupled system attains 44%,which is a significant improvement compared with the 11.5%of the independent solar pond.The conclusions reveal that the coupling of PV/T with SGSP can notably enhance the comprehensive energy utilization efficiency.Although a certain degree of salinity stability is sacrificed,the coupled system possesses significant engineering application potential for supplementary heating in winter.
