Does an"Citation Disadvantage"Exist for Articles in Academic Serially Published Monographs?Analysis Based on the Transformation of Academic Serially Published Monographs to Journals from 2012 to 2021

Abstract
This study investigated whether articles in academic serially published monographs faced a"citation disadvantage"by assessing the citation impact before and after their transformation into academic journals.The objective was to offer insights for the advancement of academic serially published monographs in our country.Publications from 2012 to 2021,fully indexed by CNKI-CCJD and having transitioned from academic serially published monographs to academic journals,served as the core sample.Employing the multi-period CSDID method,changes in citation metrics post-transformation were analyzed.Publications that became academic journals see a notable rise in average citation counts compared to those that stayed as academic serially published monographs.Positive effects materialize immediately in the transformation year,with robust outcomes.The citation potential of academic serially published monographs might be undervalued due to their label,hindering full recognition and dissemination of humanities and social science achievements in our nation.The study underscores the necessity for academia to acknowledge and cherish the distinct value and contribution of academic serially published monographs,advocating for a more inclusive and diverse evaluation framework to effectively mitigate or eradicate potential citation biases against academic serially published monographs and their content.关键词
