Abstract
Chinese and Western spatial theories and conceptions together reveal the dual constructive relationship between human beings and space.Human beings shape space through social practices, ethical norms, and aesthetic experiences, while the structural order of space,in turn, influences human cognition, living conditions, and spiritual realm. The interpretation of spatial issues is rooted in the exploration of their natural attributes. The relationship between humans and natural space manifests as"domination"in Western culture and as"dwelling"in Chinese culture.Western Marxism explains the human agency in creating space through practice and analyzes how the capitalization of space shapes living conditions and leads to ecological alienation. In the classical Chinese conception of space, people endowed space with cultural meaning through construction activities that"imitate Heaven and model after Earth,"while the spatial order in turn shaped human spiritual consciousness and cultural orientation. Both spatial perspectives generate insights that encompass the intersubjectivity of space, emphasizing the construction of meaning through the mutual constitution of humans and space. They reveal the essential connections of living space and advocate activating spatial intersubjectivity through existential perception and situational configuration, thereby achieving the dialectical unity between humans and the environment and providing a foundation for the construction of ecological ethics and ecological aesthetics. As the giver of meaning, humans transform space into a dwelling place that carries both physical and spiritual values;while space,as an environmental existence, continuously shapes and constrains human perception and experience through its material form, historical accumulation, and ecological laws.关键词
