民国时期岷江上游木号的兴办、运营与监管
Establishment,Operation,and Supervision of Timber Firms in the Upper Reaches of Minjiang River During the Republican Period
摘要
Abstract
The rise of timber firms in the upper reaches of the Minjiang River was not only a practice of the modern ethos of"broadening sources of revenue and promoting industries"in frontier regions,but also a result of the political transformations and regional dynamics of the Republican period.By the 1930s,the timber firms in the upper reaches of the Minjiang River had reached their peak,but they gradually declined due to factors such as the rise of the opium trade in the region,deforestation,and increasing timber taxes.The organizers of these timber firms were mainly composed of bureaucrats,local gentry,secret-society members,warlords,and capitalists.Large-scale timber firms exhibited a combination of power and capital,integrating logging,rafting,processing,and sales.Timber revenues mainly flowed to investors,managerial personnel,and local power holders.Most of the laborers in the timber firms—such as loggers,rafters,porters,and boatmen—came from inland areas and received very meager wages.Large-scale commercial logging was the main cause of the rapid destruction of forest resources in the upper reaches of the Minjiang River.The ecological crisis caused by excessive deforestation formed a vicious cycle with rural decline and livelihood difficulties there.During the Republican era,although governments at various levels implemented a series of forestry policies in the region to regulate and supervise the logging activities of timber firms,these measures failed to achieve the desired results.关键词
