Revision of the Volunteer Functions Inventory and its reliability and validity test

Abstract
Objective:To revise the Volunteer Functions Inventory(VFI),and to test its reliability and validity in the application of hospice care volunteers.Methods:The Brislin translation model was adopted to translate,back-translate,culturally adapt and conduct pre-investigation on VFI to form the Chinese version of VFI.By using the convenience sampling method,a total of 412 hospice care volunteers were selected for the investigation to evaluate the reliability and validity of the scale.Results:The Chinese version of VFI included five dimensions:motivation for value expression,motivation for learning and understanding,motivation for social interaction,motivation for career development,and motivation for self-protection,with totally 27 items.The scale-level content validity index(S-CVI)was 0.957.The item-level content validity index(I-CVI)ranged from 0.800 to 1.000.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 5 common factors.The cumulative contribution rate of variance was 76.013%.The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fit well.The Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.952,and the Cronbach's α coefficients of each dimension ranged from 0.884 to 0.944.The split reliability was 0.852.The test-retest reliability was 0.912.Conclusions:The Chinese version of VFI has good reliability and validity.It could be used as an evaluation tool to measure the volunteer service motivation of hospice care volunteers.关键词
