Abstract

In response to the tripping fault of the No.2 main transformer differential protection in the New No.1 Blast Furnace Substation of Bensteel Energy General Plant,fault recording files from the main transformer protection and motor protection were collected and analyzed.Considering the saturation characteristics of current transformers(CTs)and the influence of non-periodic com-ponents,the root cause was found to be the transient saturation of secondary CTs caused by non-periodic components generated during motor startup.This saturation led to three-phase current dis-tortion,generating differential current which ultimately triggered the maloperation of the differential protection.Improvement suggestions were proposed,including adjusting the second harmonic re-straint coefficient of the differential protection and selecting CTs with high saturation factors.It was also emphasized that the parameter configuration of soft-start equipment should avoid introducing non-periodic components,providing a reference for similar fault analysis.
