Abstract

As critical equipment for storing high-pressure hydrogen,hydrogen spherical tanks are vital to operational safety due to the highly flammable and explosive nature of hydrogen.An analysis of a near-miss deflagration incident during the replacement of a safety valve on a hydrogen spherical tank at a company revealed that the root cause lay in the irrational design of the pipeline section between the safety valve and the isolation valve,which allowed leaked hydrogen to mix with air,forming an explosive atmosphere.Additionally,operators failed to effectively eliminate static electricity,which served as an ignition source.The study proposes technical improvements such as installing a venting and purging valve and introducing nitrogen to displace air,along with enhanced safety management measures.It also emphasizes that hydrogen-related operations must strictly ad-here to protocols and avoid complacency to ensure the safe operation of hydrogen spherical tanks.
