Abstract

Rock excavation in urban infrastructure projects presents significant technical,environmental,and safety challenges.Kandy North Integrated Water Supply Project serves as a case study demonstrating the application of controlled blasting and chemical splitting techniques to meet project requirements while minimizing environmental impact and ensuring safety.This article provides a detailed introduction to the methods used,the challenges encountered in densely populated areas,and the solutions developed to address regulatory and technical requirements.This study emphasizes the implementation of environmental control strategies and safety measures to ensure compliance with local and international standards,providing valuable insights for future projects and highlighting the key role of tailored excavation methods,safety management,and mitigating environmental impacts.
