Application of the"mutual control and transformation of the five elements"theory in medicine-food integrated regulation in Chinese medicine

Abstract
The theory of"mutual control and transformation of the five elements"elucidates the mutual generating and restricting relationships among zang-fu organs as well as the patterns of pathological transmission and change,providing crucial guidance for medicine-food integrated regulation in Chinese medicine.Based on the generation,restriction,over-restriction,and counter-restriction relationships of the five elements,this study summarizes four regulatory models and analyzes pathological mechanisms such as"mother passing illness to child","over-restriction","child's illness affects the mother",and"counter-restriction",and establishes eight therapeutic methods of Chinese medicine accordingly.The generating relationships yield four approaches:boosting fire to nourish earth,nourishing water to moisten wood,mutual generation between metal and water,and banking up earth to generate metal.The restricting relationships yield four strategies:draining the south and supplementing the north,reinforcing earth to control water,assisting metal to inhibit wood,and suppressing wood to support earth.The dynamic balance concept of replenishing deficiencies and reducing excesses,inherent in the mutual control and transformation of the five elements,demonstrates unique advantages in managing chronic conditions and complex pathogenesis.The integrated medicinal-food intervention system not only inherits the essence of classical Chinese medical formulas but also optimizes treatment approaches through medicine-food integrated regulation,thereby providing a theoretical foundation and practical model for the regulation of zang-fu organ function and health maintenance in Chinese medicine.关键词
