Abstract

To compare the infectivity of the Newcastle disease virus(NDV)La Sota strain administered through different routes in chickens,this study first identified the biological characteristics of the La Sota strain,then evaluated the virus's tissue tropism,viral load,shedding,and host antibody responses following administration via drinking water or ocular-nasal routes.The results showed that neither route of administration caused clinical symptoms or pathological changes in 2-week-old specific pathogen free(SPF)chickens.The virus replicated in multiple organs with viral loads ranging from 101.2 to 103.4 copies/μg.No virus shedding was detected from either the respiratory or digestive tracts.On day 7 post-inoculation,hemagglutination inhibition(HI)antibody titers in the ocular-nasal and drinking water groups were 27.2 and 24.2,respectively,with a significant difference(P<0.05).On day 14,titers were 26.2 and 27.8,with no significant difference(P>0.05).These findings indicate that La Sota strain can replicate in multiple tissues when administered through both routes,does not shed through respiratory or digestive tracts,and induces robust HI antibody responses.This study provides a reference for selecting appropriate delivery routes of live attenuated NDV vaccines in clinical settings.
