Efficacy analysis of botulinum toxin type A in treatment of facial dystonia

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of botulinum toxin type A in the treatment of facial dystonia,as well as the changes and clinical significance of transient reflex.Methods A total of 46 patients diagnosed with facial dystonia and treated with botulinum toxin type A at the First Affiliated Hospital of Shihezi University between September 2023 and August 2024 were selected,forming the botulinum toxin group.Among them,15 patients who had previously taken oral medications constituted the medication group.The efficacy of the two groups was compared and analyzed.Additionally,the patients were divided into the first injection group(17 cases)and the repeated injection group(29 cases)according to the number of injections they had received.The clinical efficacy,adverse reactions,and differences in blink reflex before and after treatment were analyzed.Results After treatment,symptoms improved in 45 patients,while 1 patient showed no improvement.The botulinum toxin group was significantly better than the drug group in improving muscle spasms(P<0.05).Compared with the first injection group,patients in the repeated treatment group had more severe spasms,longer course of illness,and higher injection dose(P<0.05).The overall improvement rate of the repeated injection group was slightly higher than that of the first injection group,and the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Compared with the repeated injection group,only the post-treatment R2 latency(P=0.001)and pre-treatment R2'latency(P=0.011)showed statistically significant differences,while there were no statistically significant differences in other indicators(P>0.05).Conclusion Botulinum toxin type A is effective in the treatment of facial dystonia,and there is a correlation between the improvement in clinical symptoms and the change in electrophysiological transient reflexes,and the use of electrophysiological indices to assess the therapeutic effect can be more accurately guided by the development of clinical treatment programmes.关键词
