摘要

Abstract

Anaerobic digestion(AD)is the main approach to produce biogas,but the low efficiency of interspecies electron transfer among the syntrophic microorganisms can readily cause the accumulation of VFAs and limit methane production.The addition of biochar is an effective way to enhance the direct interspecies electron transfer between anaerobic microorgan-isms,which is related to the fact that biochar has the characteristics of complex pore structure and high redox activity.The electron exchange capacity(EEC)of biochar determines its redox activity,and its role in reinforcing interspecies electron transfer has attracted widespread attention.This paper suarizes the latest research progress of EEC of biochar in AD,inclu-ding the influencing factors of EEC of biochar,the characterization methods,and the modification methods to enhance the EEC of biochar.In addition,this paper looks forward to the targeted regulation of EEC of biochar based on machine learn-ing,the prospect of the application of EEC of biochar in environmental remediation,and the use of omics to identify the mechanism of the role of the EEC of biochar on interspecies electron transfer.Therefore,understanding the relationship be-tween EEC of biochar and AD performance is instructive in improving biogas production.
