Abstract

In order to study the effect of lateral overload on the interior ballistics and the exposure time of the insulation of a solid rocket motor,an improved method of face offsetting with high stability and efficiency was established for finocyl grain.The non-uniform burning surface regression,the interior ballistics and the exposure time were simulated under 0~50g lateral overload in dif-ferent directions.The results show that,under lateral overload,the internal ballistic changes of finocyl grain are similar to those of cone-hole grain.The pressure increases during the main working stage and decreases near the end.The exposure time of the insulation increases.The end of combustion is delayed;the wing slot feature causes the pressure to slowly decrease around 60 s relative to 0g overload.The interior ballistic and insulation exposure are affected by the lateral overload angle due to the wing slot feature.A typical high lateral overload flight environment of 10g leads to an increase of the average pressure by 1.1%during the working stage and a decrease by 11.1%near the end stage,the exposure time of insulation is also increased by 3.10 s.Therefore,the flight trajectory and internal ballistic errors caused by overload should be considered and thermal protection should be strengthened.
