Effects of Shell Morphology on Live Weight in Two Ruditapes philippinarum Clam Populations Produced from Intertidal and Subtidal Zones of Laizhou Bay

Abstract
[Objective]The effects of shell morphology on live weight of two Ruditapes philippinarum clam populations produced from intertidal and subtidal zones of Laizhou Bay were explored to provide a reference for scientifically formulating the breeding plan of R.philippinarum clam in Laizhou Bay.[Method]The shell morphology and live weight traits of two R.philippinarum clam populations produced from intertidal and subtidal zones of Laizhou Bay were measured,main factors influencing live weight were analyzed by path analysis and multiple linear regression analysis and the optimal regression equations of shell morphological traits for two R.philippinarum clam populations were established at the same time.[Result]There were differences in shell morphological traits of R.philippinarum clams between two different populations in Laizhou Bay.The shell length,shell height,shell width,live weight and radiated rib number of R.philippinarum clams produced from the intertidal zone were 34.36 mm,25.23 mm,18.86 mm,7.00 g and 59.70 respectively.The shell length,shell height,shell width,live weight and radiated rib number of R.philippinarum clams produced from the subtidal zone were 33.59 mm,22.12 mm,16.06 mm,5.79 g and 73.60 separately.The shell morphological trait was positively and very significantly related to live weight in two R.philippinarum clam populations produced from intertidal and subtidal zones but there were obvious differences in the effect of different shell morphological traits on live weight.The correlation between shell width and live weight reached the highest(0.769)and the shell length was the main factor influencing live weight(0.399)in R.philippinarum clam population produced from the intertidal zone.The correlation between shell width and live weight reached the highest(0.763)and the shell height was the main factor influencing live weight(0.412)in R.philippinarum clam population produced from the subtidal zone.The optimal regression equations of two R.philippinarum clam populations in the effect of shell morphological traits on live weight were:YIntertidal zone=-9.858+0.207Xshell length+0.180Xshell height+0.272Xshell width(R2=0.782)and Ysubtidal zone=-6.655+0.130Xshell length+0.219Xshell height+0.200Xshell width(R2=0.695)respectively.[Conclusion]The main factors influencing live weight of R.philippinarum clams are different between two R.philippinarum clam populations produced from intertidal and subtidal zones of Laizhou Bay.The R.philippinarum clam lines with the superior improvement potential produced from intertidal zone of Laizhou Bay should be bred by using shell length and shell width as selection traits,while the R.philippinarum clam lines with the superior improvement potential produced from subtidal zone of Laizhou Bay should be bred by using shell height and shell length as selection traits.关键词
