Research on SA738 Gr.B Steel Plate Exemption from Post-weld Heat Treatment

Abstract
In order to investigate the feasibility of exempting SA738 Gr.B plate from post-weld heat treatment for CAP1400 steel safety shell cylinder,shielded metal arc welding(SMAW),submerged arc welding(SAW)and gas metal arc welding(GMAW)were used to weld the test plates.The properties such as microstructure,tensile strength and impact toughness of the base metal in delivery state and post weld heat treatment state,as well as the welded joint in welding state,were compared and analyzed under different welding processes.Rapid fracture tests were conducted to evaluate the safety shell under different working conditions.The results showed that the tensile strength of the base metal and welded joint in both states meet the requirement≥585 MPa.But post weld heat treatment reduced the impact performance of the base metal and weld metal,and did not significantly improve the performance of the heat affected zone.Post weld heat treatment did not improve the mechanical properties of the welded joint.The safety shell will not experience rapid fracture under both spray and pressure test conditions.For SA738 Gr.B steel plates with a thickness≤60 mm,it is feasible to exempt them from post weld heat treatment,which can effectively avoid structural deformation caused by local heating during the heat treatment process.关键词
