Abstract

Objective To investigate the differences in antioxidant activity of Folium Perilla with both surfaces purple(PP),Folium Perilla with upper surface green and the lower surface purple(GP),and Folium Perilla with both surfaces green(GG),and to analyze the relationship between antioxidant capacity and colorimetric values(L*,a*,b*,E*ab,R-value,G-value,and B-value),perilla aldehyde,rosmarinic acid,and anthocyanidin content.Methods The antioxidant activity of Folium Perilla was evaluated by using the scavenging rate of 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)free radicals in three different leaf colors,and analyzed by partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA)was used to analyze the antioxidant capacity and active components of PP,GP,and GG,and Pearson correlation analysis was used to investi-gate the correlation between antioxidant activity and colorimetric values,perillaldehyde,anthocyanin,and rosmarinic acid content,respectively.Results The concen-trations of PP,GP and GG in the range of 7.81-125 μg/ml showed DPPH free radicals radical scavenging rates of 91.38%,88.60%and 81.46%,respectively.At 250 μg/ml,the scavenging rate of all three types of samples was greater than 90%.The half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)of DPPH free radicals radical scavenging by PP,GP and GG were(36.60±4.44),(58.08±11.88)and(70.60±9.26)μg/ml,respectively,and the antioxidant capacity was PP,GP and GG in descending order.PLS-DA results showed that the Folium Perilla with different leaf colors were each grouped into one cat-egory.Correlation analysis showed that IC50 was highly significant negatively correlated with the red image element component means(R value),and significantly negatively correlated with rosmarinic acid and anthocyanins.Conclusion The differences in antioxidant capacity of Folium Perilla with different leaf colors were revealed.The higher the R-value of Foli-um Perilla,the higher the content of anthocyanins and rosmarinic acid,and the stronger the antioxidant capacity of Folium Perilla,which proved a basis for"quality evaluation based on color"of medicinal Folium Perilla.
