Abstract

To address the high energy consumption issue associated with lime-stabilized soft clay,oyster shell powder was used as a substitute for lime,with incorporation rates of 0,3%,6%,9%,12%,15%,18%,and 21%.The effects of oyster shell powder on the fundamental physical and mechanical properties of soft clay and the improvement mechanism were investigated through X-ray diffraction(XRD)diffraction tests,liquid-plastic limit tests,compaction tests,and shear strength tests.The research results indicate that oyster shell powder reduces the kaolinite content in soft clay and increases the dry density of the soil.As the incorporation rate of oyster shell powder increases,the cohesion and shear strength of the soil first increase and then decrease,while the internal friction angle gradually increases before stabilizing.Under a vertical pressure of 75 kPa and an oyster shell powder incorporation rate of 12%,the shear strength of the soil increased by 185.3%compared to pure soft clay.The optimal incorporation rate of oyster shell powder for improving soft clay is recommended to be 12%.The findings of this study can provide a reference for the application of oyster shell powder in soft clay improvement.
