一次自然冰雹云的X波段双偏振相控阵雷达观测特征分析
Characteristics Analysis of an Uncatalyzed Hail Cloud Using X-band Dual-Polarization Phased-Array Radar

Abstract
Using data from an X-band dual-polarization phased-array radar and conventional observations,the characteristics of an uncatalyzed hail cloud(i.e.,no artificial hail suppression operations were conducted)that occurred in Weining,Guizhou on 1 July 2023 were analyzed.The results showed that:The hail cloud cell developed rapidly,accompanied by a distinct VIL jump.During its development stage,both the ZDR column and KDP column extended above the-20℃level.During the mature hail stage,ZH exceeded 60 dBZ.Above the 0℃level,ZDR was low(0~2 dB).Below the 0℃level,ZDR was larger(0.5~4 dB),KDP exceeded 3.1°/km,and the Correlation Coefficient(CC)ranged from 0.85 to 0.94.The horizontal wind field within the hail cloud,influenced by the mesoscale background circulation,was dominated by southwesterly and southerly winds in the middle and lower levels.Dynamic coupling was formed by the superposition of strong mid-level convergence and the intrusion of dry,cold northwesterly air in the upper levels.The vertical wind field revealed a circulation center characterized by rear inflow(ascending)and forward outflow(descending),providing the dynamic conditions necessary for hailstone recycling and growth.The mature stage exhibited storm-top divergence,and the region of upper-level sinking motion corresponded to the surface hailfall area.The primary hail formation mechanism involved graupel particles being carried by the updraft into the region of supercooled water and ice mixture accumulation,where they grew into hailstones.The research results provide reference for the application of X-band dual-polarization phased-array radar in hail weather monitoring and warning.关键词
