Rainstorm Events and Mesoscale Characteristics of the Wudu Vortex in Southeastern Gansu

Abstract
This study investigates the Wudu vortex rainstorms during flood seasons(April-September)from 2009 to 2023 in southeastern Gansu Province,using conventional meteorological observations,NCEP FNL 1°×1° reanalysis data,MICAPS data,and precipitation datasets.The results indicate that:(1)The Wudu vortex was associated with 192 rainstorm days,accounting for 61.7%of total rainstorm occurrences.The vortex originated from four source regions(northwestern,northern,local Wudu,and southwestern)and followed four primary tracks:southeastward,eastward,northeastward,and localized dissipation around Wudu.(2)Annual frequency of Wudu vortex events varied significantly,peaking in 2013/2018 and reaching minimum in 2021.Most events occurred between June-August(maximum in July).The vortex lifespan reached 72 hours(most frequently 12-24 hours),strongly correlated with precipitation coverage and intensity.(3)Synoptic patterns were classified into four types:Mongolian low-vortex,subtropical high,low-trough,and plateau-vortex patterns.The subtropical-high type exhibited the longest lifespan,while Mongolian-low-vortex and low-trough types showed shorter durations.Mesoscale conceptual models and convective parameters were established for different vortex types.关键词
