Survey on visual acuity and refractive status of children aged 4～6 years old in a district of Nantong from 2021 to 2023

Abstract
Objective To understand the visual acuity and refractive development status of 4～6 years old kindergar-tens children in Haimen District of Nantong City,and to provide reference for the development of vision protection for pre-school children.Methods From 2021 to 2023,all children aged 4～6 years old in the kindergarten were screened for vision and refraction,and the screening results were statistically described and analyzed.Results A total of 56755 children(113510 eyes)were screened.Children at 6-year-old have better visual acuity than 5-and 4-year-old,and the difference was statistically significant,P＜0.001.The detection rate of poor vision in girls(7.8％)was significantly higher than that in boys(7.3％),and the difference was statistically significant(x2=4.642,P=0.031).Visual acuity was higher in 6-year-old than in 5-year-old in the previous year,and was higher in 5-year-olds than in 4-year-olds in the previous year,the difference was statistically significant,P＜0.001.The detection rates of poor vision vary widely according to reference standards,but there was consistency in reflecting that the vision status of children showed a better trend year by year with the increase of age.The spherical equivalent and cylindrical equivalent were almost the same in all age groups.The detection rate of screening myopia in this survey was 0.1％.Conclusions Attention should be paid to the eye care of pre-school children to improve the visual health of children and adolescents.关键词
