Abstract

ZnO-Bi2O3-based varistor ceramics were prepared by solid-phase sintering method to study the effect of the doping amount of Al(NO3)·9H2O on the microstructure and electrical properties of ZnO varistor.The physical phase,micro-morphology and electrical properties of the samples were character-ised by X-ray diffractometer(XRD),field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM)and elec-trochemical workstation,respectively.The results show that the addition of Al(NO3)·9H2O not only has the effect of promoting the growth of ZnO grains and enhancing the uniform distribution of grains,but also significantly reduces the resistance of ZnO grains,which in turn reduces the residual voltage ratio.In the range of(0~0.015)%(molar fraction,the same below)of Al(NO3)·9H2O addition,the voltage gradient of the varistor gradually decreased with the increase of the addition amount,and the residual volt-age ratio firstly decreased and then remained unchanged.While the doping amount of Al(NO3)·9H2O is 0.01%,the ZnO varistor has excellent electrical properties:potential gradient E1 mA=298 V·mm-1,leakage current JL=0.3 μA·cm-2,nonlinear coefficient α=32,and residual voltage ratio K=1.75.
