"Empowering"or"Disempowering":Corporate ESG Performance and the Incubation of Low-altitude Economy Enterprises

Abstract
Responding to the call of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT)to"cultivate more leading enterprises and Specialized-Refinement-Distinctive-Innovation(SRDI)enterprises in low-altitude industry and the call of the Ministry of Commerce(MC)to improve the low-alti-tude ESG system",the study constructed a theoretical model of ESG and low-altitude enterprise incubation based on the TOE framework,and selected related 343 listed enterprises as samples,and used qualitative comparative analysis(QCA)to explore the incubation paths of two types of enterprises and ESG mechanism under the configurational perspective.The study finds that a single element does not constitute a necessary condition for enterprise incubation,and ESG performance,human capital,and intellectual property(IP)exert the strongest path-driven effects.Geographically,firms cluster densely in the east,thinly in the central region,and sparsely in the west.SRDI enterprises display less diversified incubation mechanisms than leading enterprises.Among high-incubation outcomes:Leading firms generate four paths that collapse into one dominant archetype—an"ESG-empowered,IP-and-human-capital-driven"route—within which capital injections,corporate credentials,and government support are substitutable inputs;SRDI enter-prises produce a"technology-and-environment-driven"path with the absence of ESG performance.Among low incubation outcomes:leading firms ex-hibit three paths in which ESG empowerment is causally symmetric,plus one conventional non-high path.SRDI enterprises present three ESG-negative paths and two conventional non-high paths,with organizational factors acting as strong drivers in these routes but showing weaker effects in high-incuba-tion cases.The conclusions offer stage-specific development strategies and ESG-boosting pathways for early-stage firms in the low-altitude economy.关键词
