Effects of increased planting density on grain dehydration and grain filling characteristics of different summer maize hybrids

Abstract
Increasing planting density is an important way to enhance maize yield,but its impact on the grain filling and dehydration characteristics of different maize hybrids remains unclear.In this experiment,the effects of two planting density 67 500 plants/hm2 and 90 000 plants/hm2 were studied in 2024 on the grain filling and dehydration characteristics of different summer maize hybrids including Zhengdan 958,Yudan 883,Xidan 33 and MY73.The results showed that higher density significantly improved the yield of different summer maize hybrids.Xidan 33 showed the highest yield under higher density.With the increase of density,the grain weight of different summer maize hybrids decreased;the grain filling rate decreased;the grain moisture content increased at harvest;and the dehydration rate decreased.Xidan 33 showed the highest grain weight and filling rate under higher density,and the grain moisture content at harvest was 25%,which met the requirements for grain harvesting.Therefore,Xidan 33 demonstrated high grain filling rate,large grain weight,fast dehydration rate,and low grain moisture content at harvest under high density,which is conducive to promoting the high-yield dense planting and mechanical grain harvesting production of summer maize in the Huang-Huai-Hai region.关键词
