Abstract

To investigate the evolution of source-sink characteristics and their coordination during the replacement of dominant winter wheat cultivars in the Haihe Plain,this study examined 25 major cultivars released between 1950 and 2020 through field experiments.We analyzed changes in source and sink traits,the coordination of source-sink relationships,and their effects on yield.The results showed that cultivar replacement significantly increased the leaf area of the top three leaves and the net photosynthetic rate of the flag leaf,while extending chlorophyll retention by 5-7 days,thereby enhancing source strength.In terms of sink traits,the number of grains per unit area increased from 17 701 grains/m2 in the 1950s to 20 336 grains/m2 in the 2020s,accompanied by a significant increase in grain filling rate,leading to a 96.31%improvement in sink strength.Both harvest index and spike index were significantly increased,with source-sink coordination patterns characterized as either"large source-large sink"or"large source-small sink."In conclusion,the replacement of winter wheat cultivars has enhanced both source and sink strengths and optimized their coordination,thereby promoting yield improvement.These findings provide important theoretical support for cultivar selection and efficient cultivation management in the Haihe Plain.
