Abstract

To elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of different drip irrigation amounts on winter wheat yield,water and nitrogen use efficiency,and soil microbial properties,this study conducted a three-year field experiment(2022-2024)with three irrigation levels including maintaining soil moisture at 85%(W1),75%(W2),and 65%(W3)of field capacity(FC)during key growth stages,in which we systematically analyzed nitrogen accumulation and translocation,dry matter accumulation and yield formation,water and nitrogen use efficiencies,as well as rhizosphere soil bacterial diversity and the abundance of nitrogen-cycling functional genes.The results demonstrated that the W2 treatment significantly promoted nitrogen accumulation,enhanced post-anthesis nitrogen translocation from vegetative organs to grains(including its contribution rate to grain nitrogen),increased dry matter accumulation,and improved grain yield(increased yield by 3.3%in 2022 and 1.8%in 2024 compared with W1,W2,while compared with W3,the increases were 9.2%in 2022 and 12.8%in 2024).Both water use efficiency(WUE)and partial factor productivity of nitrogen fertilizer(NPFP)were optimized under W2 with an increase of WUE by 11.5%and 9.8%compared with that of W1 and W3,respectively,and an increase of NPFP by 8.7%and 15.2%(2023-2024 average).Furthermore,the W2 treatment resulted in the highest α-diversity of bacterial in rhizosphere soil,and the relative abundances of nitrification and anammox functional genes were significantly higher in W2 than that in other treatments,indicating enhanced nitrogen transformation and uptake potential.In conclusion,maintaining soil moisture at 75%of field capacity(W2)during key growth stages of winter wheat effectively regulates plant nitrogen translocation,dry matter accumulation,and soil microbial functions,facilitating the synergistic improvement of grain yield and resource(water and nitrogen)use efficiency.
