Abstract

To elucidate the wave attenuation mechanisms and behavioral patterns of the bucket-shaped permeable under varying structural parameters,this study is based on the OpenFOAM platform and utilizes the open-source computational fluid dynamics toolbox DXFlow,developed by the project team,to establish a 3-D numerical wave flume.After demonstrating the effectiveness of the numerical wave flume through temporospatial validation,theoret-ical solution validation,and model experiment validation,this study explores the effects of porosity and the number of openings on the wave-dissipation performance of a bucket-shaped permeable breakwater under the action of regu-lar waves.Findings demonstrate that,within the range of the relative wavelength L/D between 6.7 and 12.7,the variation in the wavelength has a negligible effect on the wave-dissipation performance of this type of breakwater.The wave-dissipation performance of the breakwater mainly relies on the porosity.Changing the number of openings while keeping the same porosity has an insignificant influence on the wave-dissipation performance.When the po-rosity is nearly 12%,the dissipation coefficient reaches its maximum value.Therefore,the breakwater presents op-timal wave-dissipation performance at this porosity level.This study develops a modeling foundation for optimizing the design and assessing the wave attenuation performance of bucket-shaped permeable breakwaters.
