Resistance resilience of reinforced concrete hybrid piers with a steel tube embedded in the plastic hinge

Abstract
An evaluation method for the resistance resilience of the hybrid piers was proposed based on an energy-based approach to study the resistance resilience of reinforced concrete hybrid piers with a steel tube embedded in the plastic hinge.XTRACT and ABAQUS were utilized to develop the composite section model of the plastic hinge area of the hybrid pier and the finite element model of the hybrid bridge.After verifying the reliability of the model,the effects of parameters such as the reinforcement rate,diameter of the embedded steel tube,and length of the steel tube on the resistance resilience of the hybrid piers under different shear span ratios were calculated.Addi-tionally,the optimization method for the steel tube section was presented.The results show that the rotational ca-pacity and load-holding capacity of the composite section are significantly increased.The ratio of longitudinal rein-forcement has an obvious influence on the initial resistance and resilience of the section.The diameter of the steel tube in the plastic hinge area of the hybrid pier should be 1/3 of the pier diameter.The steel tube presents two crit-ical values of resistance resilience:one at the initial stage and the other reflecting the overall structural behavior across its length.For hybrid bridge piers with shear failure under lateral forces,the contact stress between the steel tube and the peripheral concrete can be effectively decreased,the failure mode of the hybrid pier can be changed,and the seismic resilience of the original structure can be improved by changing the section of the upper part of the core steel tube.The research findings provide references for evaluating the resistance,resilience,and seismic opti-mization design of this type of hybrid bridge pier.关键词
