On Diagnosis and Treatment of Stroke Based on the Theory of"Dragon-Tiger Circuit"

Abstract
The pathogenesis of stroke involves the interaction of pathogenic factors such as wind,fire,phlegm,stasis,and deficiency,which disrupt the flow of qi and blood,adversely affect the brain,and lead to the impairment of mental faculties.The theory of"dragon-tiger circuit"conceptualizes the coordinated dynamic relationship between the ascent and descent of liver-lung qi movement,Specifical-ly,the liver qi ascends on the left,while the lung qi descends on the right.These two organs,positioned left and right and governing as-cent and descent respectively,are in charge of the qi movement throughout the body.Disruption of the"dragon-tiger circuit"is a central link in the onset of stroke,primarily through two pathogenic pathways:On the one hand,dysfunction in the ascent and descent of the liv-er and lung can generate pathological factors like wind,fire,phlegm,stasis,and deficiency.These factors,in turn,further disrupt the har-monious ascent and descent of the liver and lung,creating a vicious cycle.On the other hand,as regulatory pivots,the imbalance of yin and yang in the liver and lung can induce a systemic yin-yang disharmony,leading to visceral dysfunction and ultimately resulting in malnourishment of the clear orifices or pathogenic disturbance of the brain collaterals.Based on the theory of"dragon-tiger circuit",the treatment of stroke focuses on regulating and smoothing the liver-lung qi movement.Therapeutic methods such as dispersing and extin-guishing wind,descending fire and subduing yang,directing qi downward and resolving phlegm,promoting qi flow and activating blood,as well as tonifying qi and blood,are employed in order to harmonize the qi movement,facilitate the smooth function of the pivotal mech-anism,ensure adequate nourishment of the brain,and restore normal mental function.关键词
