Wang Xiuge's Experience in Treating Diabetic Gastroparesis Based on the Syndrome of"Deficiency-Induced Qi Stagnation"

Abstract
Professor Wang Xiuge believes that diabetic gastroparesis(DGP)is a condition characterized by deficient root cause and ex-cessive manifestation,involving deficiency-excess in complexity.The"deficient root cause"refers to deficiency of primordial qi,specif-ically spleen-stomach deficiency and kidney essence insufficiency.The"excessive manifestation"refers to qi stagnation,phlegm reten-tion,and blood stasis in the stomach collaterals.Its etiology and pathogenesis can be summarized as"deficiency-induced qi stagnation."The disease is located in the spleen and stomach,and is closely related to the liver and kidney.Professor Wang proposes that the treat-ment of DGP should closely consider the characteristics of its pathogenesis.She advocates"tonifying deficiency and unblocking stagna-tion"as the core treatment principle for DGP.Tonifying deficiency addresses the root cause,emphasizing fortifying the spleen and stom-ach,consolidating the foundation for cultivating the primordial qi,replenishing the kidney for cultivating the primordial qi,and strengthe-ning yang to transform qi.Therefore,Toxin-Removing and Meridian-Dredging and Kidney-Protecting Decoction can be used.Unblocking stagnation addresses the manifestations,prioritizing moving qi to regulate qi movement,and consistently incorporating resolving phlegm and dispelling stasis throughout the treatment course.Therefore,Modified Decoction for Removing Diabetes and Vessel Impediment is used.Professor Wang also emphasizes the dosage and combination of qi-moving drugs.Since most qi-moving drugs are warm and drying,they can easily consume qi and damage fluids.Therefore,she often combines qi-moving drugs with qi-tonifying and yin-nourishing drugs,such as Taizishen(Radix Pseudostellariae),Maidong(Radix Ophiopogonis),etc.to avoid the drawback of damaging healthy qi.关键词
