Abstract

Investigating the pyrolysis characteristics of medical waste is crucial for efficient conversion and maximized utilization of the pyrolysis products.The thermogravimetric analysis was employed to explore the pyrolysis characteristics of medical waste mixtures,disposable masks and mask-nitrile glove mixtures at various heating rates,and a pyrolysis kinetic analysis method was established.Furthermore,the pyrolysis kinetics parameters were analyzed and the activation energies were calculated using KAS(Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose),FWO(Flynn-Wall-Ozawa)and Friedman methods.The results show that the pyrolysis process of medical waste and its typical components mainly consists of three stages:dehydration,primary pyrolysis and further decomposition of the residues.Additionally,increasing the heating rate causes the initial and final temperatures of the pyrolysis reaction shift to higher values,and a thermal hysteresis phenomenon occurs.The activation energy of disposable masks is calculated to be 199.98-201.32 kJ/mol,while for the mask-glove mixture it is 194.27-199.73 kJ/mol.Notably,the addition of gloves has no significant effect on the pyrolysis process of the masks.
