Abstract

In order to understand the quality of the ocean wind vector product(OVW)of Fengyun-3E satellite(FY-3E),buoy observations and the sea surface wind product of HaiYang-2B satellite(HY-2B)were used to evaluate the quality of FY-3E/OVW.The results show that:compared with buoy observations,the root mean square errors(RMSEs)of wind speeds in the C-band,Ku band,and dual band of FY-3E/OVW are 1.85 m/s,1.52 m/s,and 1.54 m/s,respectively,showing a systematic negative deviation,and the RMSEs of wind directions are 23.17°,22.47°,and 22.77°,respectively.The wind speed deviation is larger in the tropical Pacific,and the wind direction deviation is larger in the nearshore areas.Overall,FY-3E/OVW meets the design criteria of wind speed and direction with RMSEs less than 2 m/s and 25°.The quality of Ku band products is slightly better than that of dual band products and significantly better than that of C-band products.The consistency between FY-3E and HY-2B ocean wind vector products is good,with linear regression coefficients of wind speed and direction both exceeding 0.9,mean error close to 0 and RMSE of 0.48 m/s and 10.50°.The regions with significant differences locate in the equatorial areas.
