The Impact of Natural Disaster Experiences on Farmers'Preferences for Agricultural Land Transfer Contracts
摘要
Abstract
Currently, agricultural land transfers in China still exhibit informal transaction characteristics such as predominantly verbal contracts,short-term and non-fixed durations, and gratuitous"favor-based leases,"which contradict the formalized contractual ar-rangements advocated by modern contract economics.Based on large-sample household survey data nationwide, this study empirically examines the impact of natural disaster experiences on farmers'preferences for agricultural land transfer contracts and its underlying mechanisms. The findings reveal that experiencing natural disasters significantly enhances farmers'preference for relational land trans-fer contracts,a conclusion that remains robust after stability tests.Mechanism tests indicate that this preference is amplified through two channels:heightened risk aversion and impeded human capital accumulation.Further analysis reveals that natural disaster experi-ences exert a more pronounced promotional effect on the selection of relational farmland transfer contracts among households during childhood and adolescence, adulthood, and in major grain-producing regions and households with weak kinship ties.Based on these findings, efforts should focus on mitigating the impact of natural disaster experiences by alleviating farmers'risk aversion, enhancing human capital levels, and prioritizing support for households in major grain-producing regions and those with weak kinship ties.Con-currently,maintaining historical patience in the development of China's farmland transfer market remains essential.关键词
