Abstract
Shanghai,as the foremost city of modern park construction in China,provides representative cases for investigating the typological and stylistic evolution of modern parks.Grounded in the devel-opment of modern parks in Shanghai,this study examines representative cases across different his-torical phases,with particular focus on the formal expressions and evolutionary patterns of traditional garden design philosophy embedded within modern park designs.It outlines three phases in the design of modern parks in Shanghai:(1)the eclectic inte-gration of traditional and Western elements in the early 20th century,(2)the inheritance of traditional mountain-water layout paradigm in the post-1949 era,and(3)the emergence of diverse modern in-terpretations in the post-1980s.It also reveals how the transformation of modern parks was influenced by socio-political developments,policy restruc-turing,and evolving cultural trends.The study takes Fangta Garden as a key example to interpret its creative inheritance of traditional garden cul-ture beyond conventional forms,aiming to provide innovative approaches for integrating traditional garden design philosophy with contemporary park design practices.关键词
