Identifying the Historic Parks' Living Characteristics of Heritage through the Landscape Evolution Mechanism:A Case Study of Huangpu Park in Shanghai

Abstract
Huangpu Park,the first urban park in modern Shanghai,has developed distinctive his-torical landscape characteristics over its 150-year evolution.It has undergone continuous regenera-tion through renovations and urban renewal,while its living characteristics of heritage remain under-studied.This article examines the landscape evo-lution of Huangpu Park and proposes an analytical framework of 'tracing historic layering-elucidating evolution mechanism-identifying the living char-acteristics of heritage'.Drawing on archival docu-ments and historical photos,the article reconstructs the park's spatial evolution since its establishment in 1868,revealing the evolving landscape charac-teristics and their influencing factors at each stage through the lens of spatial morphology theory.It further explores the landscape evolution mecha-nism shaped by multiple factors,and summarises Huangpu Park's living characteristics of heritage into three aspects:holistic,physical,and social and cultural.The findings provide a theorical basis for the subsequent conservation and regeneration prac-tices of historic parks.关键词
